ABOUT BOD The Bowmen of Darenteford Archery Club is now located in Northfleet, Kent, having moved from its original home of 40 years at nearby Dartford. The Club is affiliated to Archery GB (trading name of GNAS, the Grand National Archery Society), Kent Archery Association and the Southern Counties Archery Society. The Club was founded in 1977 by a few local archers, but membership quickly grew as the sport gained popularity and has remained healthy ever since. Current membership is over 70, with ages ranging from 9 to 70+ , though this is not exclusive! Members enjoy both indoor and outdoor target shooting using recurve, compound and longbows, with experience ranging from complete beginners right through to County level and beyond. We are proud to boast that some of our top archers hold County records and have taken part in International competitions. We shoot outdoors all year round and indoors during the winter, holding a variety of 'in-house' competitions based on handicaps to give everyone an even chance. Sometimes we hold novelty shoots in fancy dress to add a bit of hilarity and, with the summer BBQ and Xmas shoots, it's not only the archery that attracts members and their guests! We also participate in the West-Kent League and several Postal Leagues. In 2002 we even went to France for a return match against the Guillaume Tell Archers of Dunkirk, and thoroughly good time was had by all. Apart from our own full programme of events, members also take part in many of the tournaments organised by other local clubs, which can also provide the opportunity to try field shooting, clout shoots and even mediaeval re-enactment. Our venue for both indoor and outdoor shooting is Northfleet School for Girls, Hall Road, Northfleet, Kent, DA11 8AQ. Please see our 'fixtures' page for dates, times and maps. To become a shooting member (we also offer non-shooting social membership for the likes of partners), a person must have undertaken a beginners course, either with us or another approved establishment. We hold beginners courses throughout the year for aspiring applicants, and also 'have a go' days for those who would like to try the sport first. All training is given by, or supervised by, Archery GB qualified coaches. Please see our 'training' page for details of courses. So, if you are interested in becoming a member, or would just like to come along as a visitor, we would be delighted to see you.
